Give us the hard one.

Backtick is a senior engineering studio. For twelve years we have designed, built and run the systems other teams turn down: exchanges, layer‑1 blockchains, private clouds, airgapped AI, and computer vision in people's living rooms.

01 — Thesis

The domains change. The shape of the work doesn't.

Collect data from many sources. Move it reliably. Act on it, more and more often with AI. That is why the team that shipped a payment gateway can pick up a sensor fleet or an airgapped LLM gateway without starting from zero.

Multi-chain crypto payment gateway

A B2B platform that lets merchants accept crypto on ten blockchains. We did all of it: market research, backend, hosted checkout, TypeScript and Python SDKs, documentation, and training the client's support team. We also carried the pager for it.

Enterprise AI governance platform

A self-hosted LLM gateway that gives every employee at a bank, telco or ministry access to generative AI, while prompts and sensitive data stay inside the perimeter. It includes a policy engine, two-pass data-loss prevention, audit and quotas, and runs fully airgapped.

Seventeen platforms.
One team.

Hover a project to see its shape.

  1. 2026 Enterprise AI governance platform Enterprise AI

An on-prem LLM gateway that keeps regulated data inside the company perimeter.

  2. 2026 Home rehabilitation, computer vision Healthcare

Computer vision checks that patients do their prescribed exercises correctly at home and reports the results to their doctors.

  3. 2025 Online healthcare platform Healthcare

Virtual visits with either an AI expert or a real specialist.

  4. 2025 Cloud provider platform on OpenStack Cloud infrastructure

A self-operated public cloud running customer workloads.

  5. 2024 Agriculture IoT platform Agriculture

Farm machinery streams to one dashboard, and AI manages some of the machines directly.

  6. 2024 Notion + mindmap productivity app Productivity

Notion-style documents and mind maps in one app for organising tasks and notes.

  7. 2023 AR on-site construction viewer Construction

Revit designs overlaid on the job site through a headset, so teams can compare what was built with what was designed.

  8. 2023 Crypto wallet for universities Crypto

A wallet built for universities and their campus communities.

  9. 2022 Multi-chain crypto payment gateway Fintech

Ten chains, 80+ merchants, and payment failures down from ~100/day to 2–3/month.

  10. 2021 Decentralized exchange on THORChain Blockchain

Native cross-chain swaps with no wrapped assets.

  11. 2020 Decentralized exchange on Bitcoin Blockchain

Built directly on Bitcoin with multi-signature schemes and Bitcoin Script.

  12. 2019 Centralized crypto exchange Fintech

A full exchange trading 120 tokens.

  13. 2018 Smart real estate platform Real estate

Collects listings from many platforms, then uses AI to normalise them and find the best price.

  14. 2017 Layer 1 blockchain on Cosmos SDK Blockchain

A new chain with web and mobile wallets, a block explorer, validator onboarding, and a point-of-sale app.

  15. 2016 Combined ERP + CRM platform Enterprise

Operations and customer relationships managed in one product.

  16. 2015 Accounting app for small businesses Fintech

Cloud accounting for small businesses and merchants.

  17. 2014 Online shop E-commerce

A full storefront with catalogue, cart and checkout. This is where we started.

04 — Capabilities

What we're good at.

  1. Distributed backends

High-throughput services that stay correct under load and partial failure.

  2. Data pipelines

Ingest, normalise, store and serve, with back-pressure and failure recovery.

  3. Applied AI

Turning raw signals into decisions: automation, anomaly detection, control.

  4. LLM systems & governance

Retrieval, agents and gateways, including fully on-prem and airgapped setups.

  5. Computer vision

Perception products that run on-device and in the field.

  6. Blockchain & fintech

L1 chains, exchanges, wallets and multi-chain payment infrastructure.

  7. IoT & telemetry

Device fleets that stream to a central platform, reliably and at scale.

  8. Cloud & platform

Infrastructure we operate ourselves, including OpenStack-based private cloud.

  9. Product & interface design

Dashboards and control surfaces that people can actually operate.

  10. Reliability engineering

99%+ uptime, observability from day one, and runbooks that outlive us.

05 — Process

The people who scope it are the people who run it.

  1. 01

    Discovery

We work out scope and architecture together, and leave with a plan you could build without us.

  2. 02

    Build

We work in short iterations and get to production early, then harden what is there.

  3. 03

    Launch

Observability and SLAs are in place before the first user arrives, not after the first incident.

  4. 04

    Handover

Runbooks and hands-on training mean your team can run it without us.

Ways to engage

  • Discovery sprint

The problem is clear but the architecture isn't. Two to three weeks to a plan.

  • Build a product

A system designed, built and launched end to end.

  • Embedded pod

Senior capacity that joins your team and builds with it.

  • Rescue & harden

Something exists and partly works. We make it reliable.

06 — Contact

Tell us the
hard one.

Tell us what you are trying to solve. You'll get an honest answer about whether we're the right team, and if we are, a concrete architecture and plan.

Or sketch it here and we'll open a draft in your mail app.
